So we showed up but were concerned by the prices that were a bit out of the range of what we wanted to pay. Not that it is more expensive than other starred restaurant, but we already had booked pricey restaurants for London and we sort of didn't want to blow the bank in the first few days of our 2 weeks in the U.K.
Therefore, the thinking was, Cafe a Vin is right next door, same owners, they might even share the kitchen. So let's see if we can get a close to Michelin star meal on the cheap!
We were not disappointed; the ambiance at Cafe a Vin is relaxed, modern brasserie style. However, no compromise on the food quality; fresh ingredients, beautiful yet simple plating, very tasty, bold flavours.
|English asparagus, slow poached egg & smoked duck breast. Perfectly cooked egg. Fresh (not stringy), crisp asparagus with deep flavour. Taking a bite with a mix of all the ingredients feel like summer. £8.50|
|Char grilled lamb leg, Borlotti beans & apricot puree. Really nice. Again, perfect cooking. Very fresh lamb which the added texture of the beans comes to enhance, finished with a hint of sweetness of the sauce. Yum! £15|
